"Among the passengers known to have sailed on the Valencia who have not been heard from was William S. Hume, a Kentuckian, but a resident of San Francisco for the past five months. Mr. Hume, who is of a prominent and well connected family of Richmond, Madison county, Kentucky, came to the Coast last summer to look into the mining industry, spending some time at Bullfrog. Completing his work there, he came to San Francisco and had been living at the Monarch Hotel, on Stockton Street, near Sutter, up to the time of his departure for Seattle. His mother, Mrs. Eugenia B. Hume, and a brother, Edward B. Hume, live at Richmond. He has two married sisters, whose names are no known."
